Portraits and landscapes at their prime.

Introducing the latest NIKKOR prime lens worthy of wearing the coveted NIKKOR gold ring. The AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED is a dynamo at capturing beautifully rich and detailed still images and movies in any light. On FX-format cameras, its fixed 28mm focal length gives your shots a natural, true-to-memory feel. Its fast maximum aperture of f/1.4 delivers beautiful depth of field with exquisite bokeh characteristics any time of the day or night, and its durable, agile design makes it a workhorse for the most passionate shooters.

Natural 28mm focal length and f/1.4 aperture

With a 28mm angle of view, the AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED is the perfect lens for reproducing naturally vast spaces with a depth just as you see it. Compositions and perspectives will appear natural and just as you intended, making the AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED a thrilling lens to spend the day (and night) with, capturing portraits, landscapes, architecture and interiors with high resolution and outstanding definition.

Gold Ring Series optical performance

The AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED delivers peak performance from Nikon DSLRs, especially the latest generation of high-resolution cameras. Expect stunning sharpness across the entire frame regardless of aperture setting and minimal distortion. Use its large and beautiful bokeh to soften backgrounds and accentuate foreground/background relationships.

Advanced lens technologies

The AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED lens takes optical design to the next level. Two ED glass elements and three Aspherical (AS) lens elements combat chromatic aberration and colour fringing for stunning sharpness and contrast. Nano Crystal Coat (N) cuts through ghosting and flare for outstanding backlight tolerance. Expect consistent, brilliant photos and videos.

Durable design and agile performance

Despite its incredible imaging power, the AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED is simply a tool used to realize your creative vision. In order to provide a lifetime of exceptional photography, every effort was made to ensure dependability and worry-free functionality, regardless of weather conditions or harsh environments. Fluorine Coat effectively repels dust and drips while all movable parts are sealed for further protection from the elements. To provide smooth, highly accurate focusing with comfortable operation, focus ring operation was refined for optimum torque and usability while manually focusing.

Aspherical Lens

A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the centre of the lens.

Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism

An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting. With conventional D/G type lenses, the diaphragm blades are operated by mechanical linkage levers.

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass

An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

Nano Crystal Coat

An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Nano Crystal Coat uses ultrafine, nano-sized* crystal particles to eliminate reflections inside the lens throughout the spectrum of visible light waves (380 to 780 nm) in ways that far exceed the limits of conventional antireflection coating systems. Nano Crystal Coat not only solves ghost effects caused by red light, which was incredibly difficult for previous systems. It also effectively reduces ghost and flare effects caused by light entering the lens diagonally. The result: clearer images.

Rear Focusing System

A system in which only the rear lens group moves during focusing, thus eliminating changes in the physical length of the lens during focusing and enabling faster focusing. Such lenses are designated with RF on the lens barrel.

Super Integrated Coating

Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

Silent Wave Motor

AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.

The new lens is not completely free of flaws, because at this price point you should expect lower levels of longitudinal chromatic aberration and better coma correction. Still, in our opinion, excellent resolution results, both near the maximum relative aperture and on stopping down, might...

Photography BLOG

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED is a superb wide-angle prime lens for full-frame landscape and reportage photographers looking for the ultimate in image quality. You’d expect sharpness to be high across both the frame and aperture range from such a premium optic, and it certainly doesn't...

Practical Photography

While the slightly unusual focal length is a tad too long for serious landscape work, it offers a wealth of possibilities, from street to portrait or wedding and event photography, allowing you to get close to your subjects, or frame more than a traditional 35mm.

PC Magazine

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED is an ultra-wide aperture, wide-angle lens for Nikon SLRs. It can capture great-looking images, but is priced very high.

Photodo

This large, chunky lens brings a bright f/1.4 aperture and a usefully wide angle 28mm together in an impressive looking combination. 28mm has long been a classic wide angle focal length, wide enough to satisfy those seeking the look this gives and yet not so wide as to start to introduce undue...

Imaging Resource

With a price point of $2,000, the Nikon 28mm f/1.4E is unquestionably a luxury lens, but its combination of bright aperture and wide-angle focal length can lead to some unique images.

I paired this with a D810, and the sharpness and rendering in the central half is like no other Nikkor wide angle I have seen before - outstanding. At f/1.4, things fall off outside the central half, but in a very nice way. By f/2.8, things are really good out to the corners, and superb at f/5.6.

I have this lens. since last and until now works very well. What I like the most about it is that is very well built, focus is fast and amazingly sharp. I had a 24 from Sigma art and I hated the focus. Here I didn't have any problems. Check out some examples: Hochzeitsfotograf Frankfurt

This is fastly becoming one of my favorite pro f1.4 lenses from Nikon. It will pair nicely with my 105 f1/4. Great for many things, but it will shine with environmental portraits. This lens renders beautiful contrast and color saturation. Sharper than the 58mm, but with all the character.

I had an excellent experience with this Nikon. It gave an extra feel for the photographers while catching. I used it to catch-up best stills

I recently purchased the Nikon 28mm f/1.4 E ED lens to use for the usual wide stuff. Two weeks after purchase, a friend asked me to shoot his wedding, so I loaded up the 85mm f/1.4; 24-70mm f/2.8; 70-200mm f/2.8; and the 14-24mm f/2.8 with the 28mm f/1.4 on the D5.

This was a surprise for me. I love fast glass and the bokeh it produces. The 14-24 has been staple for me but I just wanted more low-light performance and I've gravitated more towards 24mm in my shots. This lens fit the bill on everything I was looking for so finally jumped on it!

B&H Photo

The MTF diagram is right about this lens: wide open, it is much sharper than the 35mm/1.4G and the 24mm/1.4G. This lens is head and shoulder above other Nikkor F1/4 lenses. Worth it and I recommend it.

B&H Photo

I`m using it for Travel and Landscape on my Z7 and it`s quickly becoming a favourite Lens. You can`t go wrong with this one.

You have to love a 28mm lens; I do. Starting with a 3 week trip to the Desert SW in 2010, where it was my go to lens, through many episodes of event work, that format just works for me. I said that if Nikon ever produced one of their super lenses in 28mm, I'd have to buy it.

B&H Photo

First, this lens is not cheap. I initially laughed at the idea that anyone would spend so much on a 28mm prime. Later, after looking through my Lightroom metadata I realized that I used my 28mm 1.8G lens more than any other. I also learned that I used my 24 - 70mm 2.8G lens even less.
