A competent travel and holiday camera with lots to recommend it, the PowerShot SX70 HS is a fine option for holidays in sunnier climes. If you need something that will deliver across a broader range of indoor and outdoor situations, it may be best to look towards a camera with a more modest zoom...

TechRadar UK

With a 1/2.3-inch sensor at its heart, only so much should be expected of the SX70 HS’s image quality. That said, pleasing results at mid-range focal lengths, together with a lovely electronic viewfinder, effective image stabilisation, good autofocus performance and speedy operation make it a...

ePHOTOzine

The Canon Powershot SX70 HS is an update to the SX60, adding 4K video, and increasing the price. This makes it competitive with other cameras, such as the Panasonic Lumix FZ82, or Nikon Coolpix B700, in terms of features, but for some reason, the Canon is almost double the price.

Photography BLOG

The new Canon PowerShot SX70 HS is something of a mixed bag overall - it takes a few steps forward in terms of the features that it offers, but one big step backwards in image quality.

Stuff.tv

A well-featured and solid bridge camera that makes sense as a travel camera – just don’t rely on it for low light

PhotoReview

Canon’s latest super-zoom camera features a new 20.3-megapixel sensor and DIGIC 8 processor, upgraded EVF and support for Canon’s CR3 Raw format plus 4K 25p video.

PC Magazine

The Canon PowerShot SX70 HS captures views ranging from ultra-wide to extreme telephoto. It's a solid camera for wildlife observers, families, and shutterbugs in search of a lightweight bridge model.

Camera Labs

The Canon PowerShot SX70 HS is a super-zoom camera with DSLR-styling, 20 Megapixel resolution and a 65x optical zoom range equivalent to 21-1365mm. Successor to the four year-old SX60 HS, the new SX70 HS inherits the zoom range, side-hinged touch-screen and much the same body as its predecessor...

Camera Jabber

The Canon PowerShot SX70 HS is a bridge camera. That means it combines some of the features of an interchangeable lens camera with those of a compact camera. So while it is fairly compact and has a fixed zoom lens, it looks like a small SLR.

Digital Camera World

Huge zoom-ranges are all the rage, but does Canon’s latest superzoom bridge camera deliver where it really coun...

Canon

I have had this camera for 2 months now. Purchased mainly for the zoom lens, plus it being lightweight. Used for wildlife photography. The lens range is just superb - anything from photographing hares / birds quite a long distance away, right down to close-ups of insects.

Wilkinson Cameras

I am a birdwatcher who like to take record pictures of birds rather than a photographer who wants to take detailed and artistic pictures of birds. I originally had a Canon DSLR with a 600mm zoom lens. The DSLR took nice pictures but I rarely took it with me due to the size and weight.

Castle Cameras

After buying and trying a Panasonic DC-FZ82, which was a grave disappointment - it failed to work within hours of purchase - we replaced it with the Canon PowerShot SX70HS. This camera immediately felt superior; the build was more solid, the actions smoother.

Photospecialist

Great camera for wildlife photography - lightweight, great zoom, and really easy to use. Photo quality is solid. Only drawbacks: performs poorly in low light, but a tripod helps; shame the zoom is operated by a dial rather than by turning the lens.

Argos

I brought this for myself as an upgrade, I was surprised at the picture quality first then the array of effects and settings. The in house editing is a great feature. Plus can send photos straight to my mobile, fantastic camera for the money

Having a lot of fun with the camera. It does everything I want it to do.

Rate My Camera

This camera I got at a really good price and was surprised about the really great detail in photos very sharp and no resolution loss and the video mode isn’t that bad too overall I would recommend this

Canon

I've always loved these Canon Bridge cameras but the focussing is so poor for wildlife which is my main interest. You can't get it to discriminate between the bird and the trees they are in and by the 20th time of trying the bird flies off! I've written to Canon about it to no avail.
